A little story about us

A family owned farm

Inspired by Kerala’s centuries old trade when ships arrived on its shores from Babylon, Assyria, Egypt, Rome, Africa and Arabia laden with gold to exchange the precious metal for Kerala’s home grown herbs and spices, Sumesh Mohan has endeavoured to launch Crop 9.

The fascinating land of Kerala has preserved its glorious history dating back to several millennia found in the Stone Age carvings in the Edakkal caves. This indicates that a flourishing prehistoric civilisation or settlement going back to over 5000 B.C. had made its presence by then. Formerly known as Chera Nadu, and now famous as Kerala since 1956, this coastal region of Malabar had become a major spice trade centre around 3000 BC. The word Kerala is first recorded as Keralaputra in a 3rd-century BC rock inscription left by the Maurya emperor Ashoka the great (274–237 BC).

Michael Andrews

Born on the farm in Capay, Michael showed an early proficiency in the machine shop and is responsible for designing tools used on the farm today.

Kathleen Barsotti

Born in Belmont, CA, Kathleen attended UC Riverside where she earned her B.S. in Agriculture. She is sole proprietor and manager of the farm.

Mark Ronson

He has commitment to build a strong financial model for farmers to connect produce directly to consumers by strategically managing our current programs.
